Rohr must learn to live with criticisms – Fashanu
Former Wimbledon star , John Fashanu, says Nigerians fans always want their teams to win every trophy , and urged Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to accept every criticism .
Rohr has played a total of 38 official matches since taking over the Eagles job in 2016 , won 20 , lost 11 and drew 7 , helping the squad qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as well as ending in third place at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt .
But the Franco -German came under scathing criticisms after his side ’s lethargic display in the 1 - 0 friendly defeat to African champions Algeria in Klagenfurt , Austria on Friday .
“ Nigeria has talented players who are phenomenal and the fans will expect more from their coaches. Criticism is not healthy but if you are a national coach of one of the most successful countries in Africa, and people are not seeing instant success , they are going to criticise you . That is part of the game, ” Fashanu told The PUNCH .
“ We are Nigerians and there is nothing wrong with always wanting to be the best, we want to win trophies , we want to be the best and we want to win whatever we can . We believe we should be because we have the products . ”
“ If you are going to be the coach of the Super Eagles , then you have to bring success and if you don’ t have it , don’ t sit down because people will come at you and Rohr must learn to live with it .”
